Seven-year-old Mabel Mackay from Burnham-On-Sea ran a mile a day in March to raise more than £500 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
After taking part in a 6-mile Santa Run across the muddy Mendips in December, Mabel was inspired to take on the month-long challenge in support of Charlton Farm, her local children’s hospice in Wraxall.
Mabel enjoyed her daily runs and also joined Park Runs at weekends to mix up the route. Despite catching a bug, she stayed determined and pushed through, making sure to end the day with a mile under her belt.
Her inspiring efforts not only raised vital funds but also sparked conversations about the invaluable care CHSW provides.
Mabel’s dad, Innes Mackay, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are really proud of Mabel. Her focus and determination are really what make her so special. She’s extremely passionate about running and helping others, so this has been a great opportunity for her to combine them.”
Lucie Perryman, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, adds: “Mabel is a true superstar! Her incredible determination throughout March has been inspiring. The funds she has raised will make a meaningful difference in supporting local babies, children, and young people with life-limiting illnesses. She is truly an inspiration to everyone.”
Children’s Hospice South West has cared for children and young people with life-threatening conditions for over 30 years, providing children’s hospice and professional family support services.
