A Burnham-On-Sea fire crew was called to help a family locked out of their car on Brean beach after their key went missing on Saturday (June 29th).
The family of two adults and two young children called on the fire service’s help after finding they were locked and thought the key had been stolen.
“The family had an eventful day at the beach after locking their car to go in the sea for a cooling paddle and swim,” Brean’s beachwarden told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“They left their shoes and car key in a pile on the beach before entering the water, but when they returned they found that the key had gone.”
“They couldn’t get their car open and because the RAC said they wouldn’t come to a car on the beach, they had a problem.”
“The mum was getting quite concerned because they and the children just had their swimming clothes on and the wind became stronger and cooler in the afternoon.”
“Luckily for the family, the car was parked at the top of the beach, so the incoming sea did not reach it. Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called as a precaution.”
“The family managed to force open a window to get inside and then the fire service arrived to help them to safely gain full entry and help a recovery service take the car away.”
“It was an unusual incident, made even more strange when the missing car key was found on the beach tideline on Sunday morning!”
