A Burnham-On-Sea club has held a busy day of festive activities for its members.
The Monday Club, based at the Burnham Area Youth Centre in Cassis Close, provides local people with learning difficulties the opportunity to meet and socialise.
The club has held its final session of the year at the Bay Centre with hot chocolate and minice pies followed by a colouring competition and a buffet lunch.
In the afternoon further activities induded a disco with dancing, a visit by Santa and an annual awards ceromony when club members were awarded certificates and medals for various achievements. Awards included helper of the Year, sports person of the year, and most creative.
Burnham and Highbridge’s Deputy Mayor Sharon Perry attended to present the awards and also to judge the three winners of the colouring competition – Andrew, Bobby and Margaret.
Cllr Cath Searing, a member of the committee, thanked Sharon, Santa and the DJ for helping to make it “a wonderful day.”
She added: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and we are now looking forward to meeting up again in the new year.”
Earlier in the year, members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Monday Club received a card and letter from King Charles and Queen Camilla thanking them for producing a colourful ceramic artwork showing the Royal Coronation carriage. It is now hung in the council chambers.
