Burnham-On-Sea charity shops urge people not to ‘fly tip’ donations outside shops

-

Charities are asking Burnham-On-Sea people to stop leaving donations outside their shops while they are closed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Lots of people are having a clear out while they stay at home – but some are dumping bags outside charity shops even though the staff are not there to pick them up or sort them.

One charity affected is Weston Hospicecare whose retail director Gemma Turner says it is a “tale of two halves.”

“We are definitely getting some genuine donations left outside but we’re also getting old stained mattresses, broken chairs, and we’ve had a couple old sofas that are clearly not saleable left outside our shops. It’s a problem.”
