Burnham care homes given hundreds of masks by kind-hearted pupils

-

Burnham-On-Sea care homes have received hundreds of masks to protect their staff made by kind-hearted school students and staff.

Staff and students across The Priory Learning Trust schools (TPLT) have been cutting visors and using school DT equipment to finish them off.

In a big community partnership and show of support for care homes and the NHS, Priory Community School Academy (PCSA), Worle Community School Academy (WCSA) and The King Alfred School Academy (TKASA) have all been helping out.

Burnham-On-Sea care homes that have received the items include Rectory Lodge Care Home; Burnham Lodge Care Home; Frith House and Stoneleigh Care Home in Weston.

PCSA Principal Angelos Markoutsas told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “So far, we have made and distributed 1100 masks/visors and have also donated 500 pairs of goggles and protective gear to Weston Hospital.”

“The initiative started after I heard on the radio that hospitals, care homes and GPs did not have enough protective gear. With the help of the wider community, we have been able to source material that allowed us to make and donate 1100 masks so far.”

Other local medical facilities to have received donations include Highbridge Medical Centre; Weston General Hospital; Milton Surgery in Weston; Medical 168 (the main distribution centre for GP surgeries and Care Homes in Weston), Weston Hospice in Weston; Children’s Hospice South West (200 masks for all of their staff in Bristol, Devon and North Somerset); and Llandough Hospital in South Wales.
