Hundreds of the region’s best BMX riders are heading into Burnham-On-Sea this weekend when the town’s BMX Club hosts the third round of the South West Regional race series.
Today, Saturday April 12th, will be a practice day at the track, located next to Apex Park, and Sunday April 13th will be the race day with the competitive action starting from around 11.30am.
Club spokesman Will Clarke says: “We will host 250 of the best riders from all over the South West with some riding National and European events. Some have qualified for the Worlds in Copenhagen this summer.”
“There are also novice categories and Burnham currently take around 30 riders of all abilities to each round.”
“Riders ranging from 4 year old novice riders to our own Taylor Hunt who is on the British Cycling GB development team for the 2028 Olympics.”
“Taylor has also just qualified as a coach and holds regular sessions at the track.”
Burnham BMX has recently achieved charity status and is currently undergoing major track and facility development.
This is possible with the generous donations of many businesses and supporters including Highbridge Caravans who are the main sponsors for the year.
The club holds open sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and more details are available on the club’s Facebook page. New members welcome.
