A Burnham-On-Sea bakery shop that closed down last month is to be re-opened tomorrow (Thursday, April 17th) by the owners of long-running Highbridge baker Maisey’s.
The Crusty Cob in Burnham High Street shut down in March, along with the firm’s six other branches across the region, as reported here. The owners of Maisey’s Bakery have come forward to take on the premises and are this week opening their new shop, pictured here.
Owners Naomi and Ben Hambidge, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very excited to be opening our second store, selling many of the popular bread, cakes, and freshly baked products sold in our Highbridge shop.“
“It’s ready to open after lots of hard work over the last few weeks and we look forward to welcoming customers.”
Naomi has a long history at the baker: “I have worked at Maisey’s for 15 years. I started as a Saturday girl and enjoyed it so much, then an opportunity arose to take it over with my husband in 2021 which we jumped at.”
“We are so proud of how far it’s come. I love meeting local people – and we are so grateful for all the positive support since we announced we’d be opening in Burnham.”
Naomi’s mother Julie Bate adds she is “a super proud mum” and is delighted to be helping the couple with their new venture.
The opening hours of the new shop will be 8.30am-4pm Monday to Saturday and then 9.30am-3pm on summer Sundays. The new Burnham shop will be open on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
Maisey’s was established in 1885 and has been trading in Highbridge’s Market Street since 1980. It is well known for its freshly baked bread and bread rolls, all baked on the premises, plus wide selection of freshly made cakes, buns, pies and pasties.
