Burnham-On-Sea archery enthusiasts hit their target when they competed in a regional tournament at the weekend.
The Burnham Company of Archers hosted a quarterfinals match in Archery GB’s national onTarget inter-club competition.
The club’s Adam Joyce said: “In each round of the competition the club is represented by a team of four archers, with two shooting compound bows and two shooting recurve bows. Each match consisted of three rounds.”
“The first round was a complete club team round, where the scores of all four archers were added together.”
“The second round saw two matches taking place, one between the recurve archers shooting as a team, and one between the compound archers, also shooting as a team.”
“The final round was an individual round where the archers went head-to-head against each other based on their scores from the previous two rounds. In each round, each archer shoots 24 arrows at a 80cm target placed 50m away.”
“The club has reached this round for the past two years, but had never managed to progress beyond it. However, this year they were able to field a very strong line up.”
“The club were represented by Liam Goodes (Team Captain) and Hayley Goodes shooting Compound, and Peter Ruddock and Darragh Joyce shooting Recurve.”
“Of the 7 matches, the club only lost one, winning the other 6, and will now head to the competition finals day held at Archery GB’s base near Telford, where they will shoot the semi-finals, and then a medals match.”
