Burnham and Highbridge Parkrun to reach 200th milestone event today

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s weekly Parkruns are set to reach a major milestone when the 200th event is held today (Saturday, April 27th).

The popular weekly runs, held at Apex Park, have gradually grown from 144 runners at the first event in June 2015 to a record 589 runners last weekend.

Organisers from Burnham-On-Sea Harriers Running Club have this week thanked the team of 36 volunteers who play a vital role in safely marshalling it each week.

Race director Reg Huxtable told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Since our first event, 7,589 participants have completed 45,813 parkruns covering a total distance of 229,065km, including 8,662 new Personal Bests. A total of 450 individuals have volunteered 3,880 times.”

“Throughout our four-year journey, the core team from Burnham-On-Sea Harriers Running Club have provided the belief, commitment, support and expertise to weekly provide a professional-standard event.”

Reg added: “We cannot thank our fantastic volunteers enough. Through all weathers and conditions an average of twenty people come long each Saturday morning and make the event happen.”

”We also value and appreciate the continuing support we receive from the staff of Sedgemoor District Council, the Apex Park custodians.”

“Perhaps the most rewarding tribute to the event was from some American athletes on tour, who said ‘this parkrun is run with military precision’ and were so impressed that they took points and methodology from our parkrun back to the United States to upgrade their parkrun.”
