Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge gymnasts strike gold in national competition

-

Young gymnasts from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have struck gold by winning a host of medals at a top national tournament.

A Team of 11 from Monarchs Gymnastics Club took part in The Pat Wade Classic Competition in Stoke on Trent at the weekend.

They competed among some of the best gymnasts from across the country with a large number of competitors taking part from England, Scotland and Wales.

Monarchs mens pair Joe Blake and Kian Hawkes were in second place after two really good routines on Saturday and then performed an amazing combined routine on Sunday to win well-deserved gold medals in the 12-18 age group.

Also finishing in the golden first position were the club’s new mens four of Joe Reed, Toby Baker, Jack Warburton and Mason Wall who were competing for only the second time this year. They wowed the audience with two brilliant routines.

Newly put together trio, Ornela Velaj, Jess Reed and Evie Tissington and young pair, Jennifer Marshall and Summer Belben, also managed to come away with very good scores after two excellent routines on the Saturday. They will be ones to watch next year.

All of these gymnasts, as well as some of their team mates, will be competing in Scotland in January.
