Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s MP James Heappey has this week heralded the success of King Alfred School Academy’s sixth form as a vote of confidence in the town.
The MP reacted to the news that a record number of 103 students have started at King Alfred School Academy’s sixth form – double on this time last year – including six new international students.
Mr Heappey said: “I’m so pleased that The Priory Learning Trust’s decision to keep the Sixth Form at King Alfred School Academy has paid off with such a strong intake this September and a huge expression of interest for next year.”
“There are many routes to a successful career but studying for A Levels and other post-16 qualifications in a school setting is an important option and I’m thrilled that the future of that provision in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge now looks secure. It’s a real vote of confidence in our town and the local economy.”
The academy is part of The Priory Learning Trust and is attracting students from schools in Weston-super-Mare including Priory Community School Academy, Worle Community School Academy, as well as Bridgwater.
Students attending the sixth form receive a bursary for travel as well as a free laptop for their studies.
