High-kicking members of Burnham and Highbridge Karate Club have this week been celebrating after getting through their grading exams.

Nick Smith, the club’s 7th Dan and Chief Instructor, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was great to see so many juniors pass in one day. We also had one adult, Joe, who attended and passed the same level as his son, Josh.”

Those achieving 9th Kyu were Liam Rosser, Holly Russam, Isabella Di Mascio, Chloe Lainton, Lorna Curtis and Connor Bryant. 7th Kyu: Nikola Fabicka; Samuel Clarke; 6th Kyu: Lauren Bird; Sunnie Burrows; Jack Keates; Sam Smith; 5th Kyu: Milly Smith and 4th Kyu: Josh Proctor.

The club, which is believed to be the longest running karate club in the area, boasts a healthy following.

Newcomers are welcome to visit one of its regular sessions, held in the Sports Hall at Highbridge’s King Alfred School, on Sundays between 10-11am or Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm. More details are available here.
