Local cake makers compete in ‘Great Burnham Cake Off’ today

-

A local hospice is set to hold a fundraising baking competition in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday.

The Great Burnham Cake off will take place on 5th April at the Baptist Church in College Street, Burnham from 10am-1pm. The event will be raising funds for Weston Hospicecare.

Fiona Cawley, 51, a Burnham based cake supplier and qualified catering manager, pictured right, is volunteering her time on the day to help judge the competition cakes and has donated several raffle prizes.

“I am thrilled to be supporting such a fantastic local cause and am really excited to be a judge at this community event in Burnham. It will hopefully bring our local community together in a joyful and fun way,” she said.

Fiona is well qualified to judge the competition – which will include ‘Best Sponge’, ‘Best Decorated’ and ‘Best Junior Baker (Under 16’s)’ – with years of experience in the catering industry, from baking to supplying buffets for events.

She will be judging the cakes based on appearance, texture, flavour and moistness.

“If you think your cakes are the best in Burnham, bring your delicious treats along on the day to sell to members of the public and help raise vital funds for Weston Hospicecare,” she added.

All cakes to be sold on the day should be delivered at the Baptist Church by 10am. If you would like your cake to be entered into one of the competition categories please let the organisers know when dropping it off. Judging will take place at 11am and then all cakes will be sold to raise extra funds for the hospice.

As well as keen bakers and hungry visitors, the Hospice is looking for volunteers to help serve the cake, tea and coffee. If you would like to get involved, contact Lynette on 01934 423922 or email lynette.preston@westonhospicecare.org.uk.
