Photos: Burnham, Brean and Berrow stay mostly quiet in Easter weekend lockdown

-

Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean stayed mostly quiet over the Easter weekend as would-be visitors and holidaymakers heeded government advice to stay away during the Coronavirus lockdown.

As these photos show – taken by local residents out on their daily exercise walks – the main areas were far quieter than normal during what is traditionally one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year.

Beach entry points for vehicles at Brean and Berrow remained closed through the weekend, as pictured here.

The M5 motorway at Burnham-On-Sea’s junction 22 was also considerably quieter than normal with traffic cameras showing levels of traffic well down, as pictured below.

Police also carried out patrols across the area and were seen patrolling Burnham beach several times.

Local residents who used local beaches and paths were seen mostly observing social distancing guidelines.

However, a resident in Brent Knoll told Burnham-On-Sea.com he’d seen large groups of walkers heading up the hill. A Burnham home owner also reported seeing groups of people heading to the beach.

“We are in this together and want to thank you for doing the right thing and staying at home this Easter weekend to protect yourselves, those you love and those you don’t even know,” said a Police spokesman.
