Burnham and Highbridge Mayor and Mayoress praise gymnastics club during visit

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor and Mayoress have praised the team at the town’s Monarchs Acrobatics Club during a special visit.

Cllr Andy Brewer and his wife Lorna heard about the club’s recent successes and its plans to compete in international competitions. They said they were “highly impressed” by the club.

The club’s Mandy Warburton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were all very excited at having our new Mayor and Mayoress, Andy and Lorna, visit us at the gym.”

“They chatted to all of the gymnasts as they watched them train, as well as saw some of the routines being performed by the team of 6 boys and 5 girls who were about to go out to Italy to compete in the Turin Acrobatics Cup, a first for the club to be invited to.”

She added: “Our local Town Council have always been very supportive of the club and we explained how we have completely outgrown our premises and have been looking for something three times the size for some time now without success, however another unit just across the road has become available which will be perfect for us to be able to offer more sessions to the ever increasing number of young people into our area.”

“We would like to be able to offer Parkour to bring in more boys as well as sessions for young people with special needs and disabilities, as well as increasing the number of young people in our recreational classes who come in for an hour or two each week to enable them to move into one of the competitive groups. We also offer the gym to local families for birthday parties on Sunday afternoons and these would be available on Saturdays as well as some weekdays.”

“On Sunday a team of young gymnasts from our NDP group which is the first entry into competition took part in the City Of Bristol Acrobatic Competition and they all did exceptionally well all bringing back medals.  We are always very proud of our gymnasts and it was lovely to get positive comments from our mayor and mayoress that as well as being very talented the gymnasts are all very good friends and have a lot of fun as well as training hard.”
