Members of a Burnham-On-Sea football club have this week handed over £1,000 for two good causes.
The Burnbridge Wanderers junior football team plays every weekend on the fields next to the Oaktree Arena and, thanks to the support of Oaktree owner Bill Hancock, the club trains and plays there free of charge on the understanding that the fee for the pitch is donated to local charities.
Following several months of fundraising, the club therefore presented £500 each to Angela Davies from Children’s Hospice South West and Maria Hanlon from the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at a ceremony on Tuesday evening (February 16th).
Burnham and Highbridge’s MP James Heappey joined the club’s presentation, alongside the Oaktree’s Bill and Debbie Hancock. The cheque was presented to the charities by Burnbridge Wanderers Chairman Nick Field and Treasurer Trish Peace.
MP James Heappey, pictured here with the youngsters, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m very supportive of the club. It’s fantastic to see just under 200 kids turning out to play football. It’s great that they have raised a great amount for two good causes.”
