Three arrests after overnight burglary at Burnham-On-Sea’s GW Hurleys

Police have arrested three people after a burglary at a Burnham-On-Sea newsagent early on Wednesday (April 19th) – the latest in a spate of commercial break-ins in the town.

Intruders smashed their way into GW Hurleys newsagents in the High Street during the early hours, stealing a large quantity of stock.

Police were quickly on scene and the force’s helicopter also flew in to scour the area from the air, with three people being arrested a short time later.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to reports of a burglary at a newsagents in The High Street this morning at about 2.40am. Entry was forced and a quantity of cigarettes taken. Three suspects – aged 14,16 and 19 – were later arrested and remain in police custody.”

These photos, taken this morning, show the aftermath of the burglary. Several large rocks were used to smash the windows.

It’s the latest in a series of commercial burglaries in Burnham-On-Sea.

Burglars smashed their way into Burnham-On-Sea’s Boots chemist store on Easter Sunday during the THIRD raid in just 12 days.

The glass doors at the entrance to the store were smashed in Burnham High Street in the early hours of Easter morning and a large quantity of stock was stolen.

The intruders gained access to the premises in an identical way to two previous burglaries at the same store on Thursday April 13th and Monday April 3rd.

In a spate of commercial break-ins in Burnham-On-Sea during the past month, as reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com, The Children’s Society shop in the High Street and Central Garage in Berrow Road have also suffered late night burglaries in which stock has been stolen.
