Weston Hospicecare is bringing a brand new event to Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday, 5th August at Apex Park – the Bubble Rush!
The Bubble Rush event is a 5k course, open to all ages, which sees participants running their way through a sea of colourful foam and special ‘bubble stations’ placed along the route.
Participants of all ages can have a fun time running, walking or toddling their way around the course, and at the same time raise vital funds for Weston Hospicecare.
The fun starts at 10:30am, when participants can start to explore the ‘Bubble Village’. The whole family will have a chance to engage their senses with the colourful, bubbly features while browsing the colourful merchandise and treats for sale.
Following a brilliant warm-up and musical entertainment from an MC, who will be playing lots of crowd-pleasing tunes, the first wave of participants will set off around noon through a sea of foamy, colourful foam as they take on the 5K course.
This family-friendly course is great for participants of all ages, so the young and young at heart alike can all enjoy this unique experience – and every participant gets a beautiful Bubble Rush medal at the end of the course – a perfect memento!
Event Manager Kelsey Dehaney told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re really looking forward to a great day and bringing bubbles to Apex Park.”
“Events like this one are a really important part of our fundraising and by taking part you will be helping us to deliver our free care to people in the area facing a life-limiting illness, and support to their families and friends.”
“With less than 21% of the £3.5 million that we need to deliver our services each year, we are reliant on the support of our community. With the summer holidays upon us, this is a great day out for everyone!”

A team of nurses, pictured above, from Weston General Hospital will be taking part for Weston Hospicecare.
The nurses from Weston General Hospital have bandied together to run this year, but all have very different personal reasons for supporting the hospice.
Jayne Biddiscombe, complex needs sister at the Trust, says: “A few years ago I lost my wonderful uncle Paul to bowel cancer – he was just 57 when he died.”
“He and his partner received such compassionate and dignified care and support from staff in a wonderful hospice in Cornwall so I wanted to raise some money for my own local hospice to help them continue to deliver the same care for others.”
“Competing in this year’s Bubble Rush is my way of showing support to the hospice and remembering my uncle.”
Emma Newbold, lead nurse in palliative care, adds: “Weston Hospicecare do a fantastic job. Two years ago the hospice looked after my mother-in-law and took incredible care of her. I want to thank them by raising money through the Bubble Rush.”
Jan Dallard, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care at the hospital, says: “Weston Hospicecare are an invaluable part of the local community so I’m looking forward to taking part in the Bubble Rush with the rest of my colleagues to raise money for this fantastic organisation that do so much for others.”
The nurses will be competing in the family friendly run along with their friends, relatives and other members of staff from the hospital, such as Jodie Fry, executive assistant at the Trust, who adds: “I’ve just started running and really wanted to do something to raise money for a local cause. We’ve all signed up together and we’re really looking forward to the Bubble Rush where we can have fun while also supporting the hospice.”
