£28,000 extension to River Brue footpath in Highbridge is opened

-

Work has been completed this week on building a new £28,000 extension to a footpath that runs alongside the River Brue in Highbridge.

The new route for pedestrians and cyclists fills in a ‘missing link’ in the path on the north side of the River Brue between Highbridge Quay and Station Walk near the railway station.

Pedestrians and cyclists can now travel between the town centre and the station while enjoying views over the River Brue.

Work to build the new path started in early September and has been completed on schedule.

Funds for the project were provided by developers of adjacent properties with a small contribution from Sedgemoor District Council.

The missing section of the path provides improved access from Highbridge Railway Station to the town centre.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Tom Dougall told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The council has been keen to see the north side of the River Brue opened up to the public for some time and this work provides the missing link – about 45 metres of footpath.”

The scheme was designed by Sustrans and the works will be carried out on behalf of Sedgemoor District Council by Larry Walker Groundworks. The scheme has been designed to meet the Environment Agency’s specification on flood protection.
