This unusual sight of a huge upturned whale was among the artworks on display during Highbridge’s three-day River Brue Festival on Saturday (August 2nd).
Dozens of people wandered along the river banks and seafront at Burnham to see a wide range of eye-catching art created especially for the inaugural two-day event.
The sculpture of an upturned whale, built by artist Stefan Jennings, drew the most attention on the banks of the river near Apex Park.
The object was created out of woven strips of willow and is pictured above with Stefan and festival organiser Sue Quatermass in the foreground.
“Stefan’s work formed a key part of the River Brue Visual Arts Festival, and provided an opportunity for residents and visitors to walk the Brue path, discovering unusual and interesting art works along the way,” festival spokeswoman Sarah Steadman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Artist Clive Hammond-Lovatt also built a sculptural exhibit using items found along the River Brue, which was also on display along the river banks, along with scores of shoals of colourful miniature fish, as pictured below. The successful festival also included sculpture workshops, a mural making session, guided walks and family art workshops.
