A period of public consultation is to be held for people in Highbridge to air their views on proposals to build 400 new homes on the fields marked on the map here.
Sedgemoor District Council’s Executive voted on Wednesday (November 17th) in favour of holding a formal consultation period on the future development of the land at Brue Farm.
A council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The consultation will be open from November 23rd at 9am until January 18th at 5pm to allow all residents and local groups plenty of time to see the proposals and give their feedback.”
Brue Farm was previously the subject of a proposed housing allocation in the council’s former draft Local Plan but was removed by the Council prior to its Local Plan Inquiry held in 2001.
This was due to there being no requirement to make further greenfield housing allocations in Sedgemoor in addition to those at South Bridgwater to meet the strategic housing targets of the plan.
Councillors heard at Wednesday’s meeting how the Brue Farm site is now considered the preferred site for future development in Highbridge as it provides a number of advantages, specifically its central location in relation to the town centre compared with other greenfield sites.
It was also stated that it is very accessibable given its nearness to Highbridge Railway Station and public transport links and that it provides easy access onto the A38 and opportunities for a new footpath and cycle links to the town centre.
Wednesday’s meeting was also told that initial discussions had been held between Natural England and the promoting developers, which had confirmed in principle that the Brue Farm site can be brought forward for development.
