Multi-million pound plans for 550 new homes on farmland on the outskirts of Highbridge have moved a step closer this week.
Outline planning permission for the Brue Farm development was granted by Sedgemoor District Council last year and a deal has been struck regarding the developer’s community contributions.
The 64-acre site on the south side of Highbridge will include a new 210-pupil school plus outdoor playing facilities and public spaces. The project includes the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of up to 550 homes.
As part of the scheme, the developer Hallam Land Management is expected to give £200,000 towards the regeneration of Highbridge for various town improvements – and the firm will also give £1million towards off-site affordable housing in the area. 21 separate conditions have been placed on the developer by the council.
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Discussions on the contributions have concluded on the outline planning application. The next step will be for a full planning application to be submitted when discussions on the appearance of the properties will take place.”
