A teenager from Weston who won a home brewing competition at Burnham-On-Sea’s Food and Drink Festival on Saturday has already clinched a deal to sell his drink.
Liam Penn, 18, won the ‘Great Burnham Brew Off’ with his impressive cider in a contest where amateur cider makers were invited to compete to make the best farmhouse cider.
Liam’s cider was praised by Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) winner Steve Dean from the Crossways Inn in West Huntspill, who judged the event.
“You wouldn’t know Liam’s cider was a home brew – it was that good,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “I have to admit to being a little nervous about judging this competition because I thought we would see some rough cider, but in fact Liam’s entry is smooth and fruity – a great winner.”
“I was so impressed that I have invited Liam to supply The Crossways with his cider for our annual beer and cider festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend.”
Delighted Liam said he was “really pleased” with the outcome, adding: “I love making cider – it’s so rewarding to create your own brew when it’s enjoyed by others.”
Big crowds turned out to visit Saturday’s Food and Drink Festival, which was held in venues across the town centre over the course of seven hours, as featured here.
