Sanders Garden Centre in Brent Knoll has this week announced its two local charities of the year.
Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue and In Charley’s Memory have been selected as the groups it will be supporting during 2019.
Karen Hamer, the store’s manager, said: “We are very keen to support local charities in the Burnham-On-Sea area and these two well-deserving groups have been chosen by colleagues for the coming year. We look forward to helping them both in 2019.”
At a cheque presentation on Saturday, she presented £507 to BARB from a recent tombola and collection, and £772 to In Charley’s Memory following fundraising during the store’s Christmas display.
As Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here last July, Blue Diamond took over ownership of Sanders last year from Wyevale. A number of changes have since been made to the store to widen its product range, make it more community-orientated, and align it closer to local customer’s needs.
BARB operates two rescue hovercraft and inshore rescue boats. Its volunteer crews were called out 50 times during 2018 to help at a variety of incidents, including searches for missing people and mud rescues.
In Charley’s Memory was set up after Burnham-On-Sea teenager Charley Marks took his own life, aged 18, in 2014 and the charity supports and helps young people affected by mental health issues.
