Brent Knoll’s newly-opened village shop is appealing for buskers to entertain customers queuing outside their shop.
Brent Knollās ’emergency shop’ was officially opened on Saturday (18th April) by local MP James Heappey using a video link from his home in Axbridge.
The virtual opening was required to comply with social-distancing rules, which mean that customers for Brent Knollās Emergency Shop must also abide by those rules.Ā That requires them to queue outside the shop, while waiting their turn to go in.
David Sturgess, a member of the steering group behind the Emergency Shop, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were thrilled to see how this queuing experience provides our villagers with a chance to catch up with neighbours from a safe distance: but it can be a long wait, so entertainment from a busker would be great.”
āI know that Brent Knoll is not London, where there are buskers on almost every street, but there must be musicians in our area who could entertain our customers.”
Brent Knollās Emergency Shop is open every day, except Wednesday and Sunday, between 9 and 11 am, run by a team of volunteers.
They are stocking the shop with all the essentials, like bread, flour, eggs, milk, vegetables, etc ā and taking orders for newspapers.
āRight now, weāre trying to engage with a major garden centre to supply the vegetable and flower plants that no-one can get, because garden centres are closed, but we needĀ buskersĀ to keep our customers cheered while they have to wait in a queueā, David added.
