Brent Knoll’s Community Shop has had a busy month with a raft of good news.
Somerset Council has conducted a food hygiene inspection and has awarded the community shop a top five-star rating.
The inspection identified a few minor issues which needed attention and have since been rectified.
Somerset Council has also extended the planning consent on their current Portakabin for two years, to allow for the delayed delivery of the planned redevelopment of the public toilets and new shop building.
With Christmas on the horizon, the shop will have hampers for sale, along with locally sourced Christmas trees and meats.. .
The community shop, created as an ’emergency shop’ when the village lost its village shop and Post Office, continues to trade profitably.
“This is entirely thanks to the hard work of our dedicated team of volunteers”, says David Sturgess, Secretary of Brent Knoll Community Shop.
“We would like to expand our opening hours and reduce the load on some of the key members of the team, but this needs more volunteers to join us”, he adds.
If you have a few hours to help with shopping for fruit and vegetables, take over the weekly ordering to a supplier, or spend an hour in the shop to check on the “use-by” dates of products, they would love to hear from you.
