Brent Knoll School rated among top 1% of UK primary schools for maths

-

Brent Knoll Primary School has been named among the top 1% of primaries in England for its achievements in maths.

The village school has received a letter from the Secretary of State for Education, congratulating the school on its success in Maths.

Headteacher Chris Burman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Receiving this letter was a great surprise – it was lovely to receive.”

“The school is currently in the top 1% of primaries in England for its outcomes in maths.”

“The staff and children have worked really hard over the last few years, getting to grips with the new curriculum.”

“Like many schools, Brent Knoll follows a Mastery Maths curriculum, with ideas taken from Singapore Maths.”

“The school took part in a Maths project last year with other local schools to develop the use of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) technique in teaching this subject.”

“CPA ensures that children can use a variety of methods, including drawing diagrams, to solve number problems.”

“The school also use Times Tables Rockstars from Year 2 upwards, which supports the learning of the times tables.”
