A £90,000 project to extend Brent Knoll Parish Hall has reached an important milestone this week with the start of building work.
A special ‘ground cutting ceremony’ was held in the village on Tuesday (April 10th) when members of the Parish Hall Committee, Parish Council and building contractors came together.
Bob Filmer, Chairman of Brent Knoll Parish Hall, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The extension will create a much-needed new meeting room, store room and disabled toilet and will enable the hall to cater for more local groups that would like to hold their meetings in the village.”
“On a number of occasions we have had to turn away prospective users because the main hall is so well used and time slots have not been available.”
He added: “Our existing meeting room is adjacent to the main hall and, although well used, does have the drawback that if groups that generate noise such as youth groups and dance groups are using the main hall the noise can have an impact on other users.”
“The new extension will make another room available that can work independently from the main hall to overcome the noise problem and it will also have its own independent access.”
John Page, Hall Treasurer, said that the project is being part–funded by £20,000 of community cash from environmental firm Viridor, plus grants from the Nuttall Trust and Brent Knoll Parish Council and a loan has also been obtained from the Charity Bank. Building work is due to be completed in July.
