Walking to the top of Brent Knoll will soon become a lot easier thanks to an £11,000 project to introduce new steps and other path improvements.
A County Council funded scheme is getting underway to make the existing muddy path between St Michael’s Church to the top of the Knoll easier to use.
Brand new steps strengthened with wood will be installed from halfway up to the top, in addition to the clearing of footpaths and hedges.
The project is being funded with £6,000 from Somerset County Council and £5,000 from County Councillor Alan Ham’s Community Initiatives Grant.
Both Brent Knoll Parish Council Chairman Peter Osborn and District Councillor Bob Filmer, pictured here, this week welcomed the improvements.
Cllr Filmer told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Many people walk up the Knoll and enjoy the fresh air and great views and we’ve therefore wanted to improve this path for a long time but have not had the funding.”
“The path was overgrown and access was getting increasingly tricky. We’re over the moon, therefore, that the work to introduce new steps, clear scrub and cut back hedges is now underway.”
“With these steps it should be a lot easier to reach the top of the Knoll. The work is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.”
Cllr Peter Osborn told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There are many people who could no longer walk up the Knoll because of the state of the path, but it will soon be accessible to all again. We’re grateful to the County Council, Cllr Ham, landowner Mike Diamond and all the parishes that supported this scheme.”
