Dozens of people clambered up the steep slopes of Brent Knoll on Sunday afternoon (April 5th) to watch the traditional blessing of three Easter crosses.
Churches from across the Burnham-On-Sea area were represented at the 20-minute service, which was led by Reverend Christine Judson, Curate of St John’s Church in Highbridge.
Several villagers from the Brent Knoll area had spent several hours on Saturday moving the symbolic wooden crosses into position.
The crosses are now clearly visible to motorists travelling along the M5 motorway and the A38 on the eastern side of the Knoll. The display will be in place for two weeks, until the weekend after Easter.
Rev Judson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve had perfect conditions for this annual service, and it was good to see such a large gathering of people taking part from all denominations across the Burnham area.”
During the service, the congregation sang several hymns, including ‘There is a green hill far away’, and listened to prayers and readings. The outdoor service has been held each Easter for over 15 years.
