Beach toilet facilities at Berrow given a makeover by council

-

A block of outdated public conveniences has been given a new lease of life which has improved facilities for visitors and residents who visit Berrow Beach.

The council-owned loos were rapidly approaching the end of their economic life with the prospect of closure looming as the toilets were almost beyond repair. But following negotiations with Beachside Holiday Park, a 99 year lease has been agreed.

As we first reported earlier this month, the park has redeveloped the site of the former conveniences transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility.

On the new, first floor level, a licensed cafe/bar has been created, serving hot drinks and refreshments as well as ice cream. On the ground floor, there are new toilets and externally, showers have been added for holiday-makers and visitors to wash off stubborn sand. There is also a new first aid and lost child facility.

Cllr Anne Fraser, Sedgemoor’s portfolio holder for Business Support and Development, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are so pleased that by common sense and working together Beachside Holiday Park and Sedgemoor have created a wonderful new facility for holidaymakers and residents alike. It’s a good example of how the Council can help support the tourism industry in Sedgemoor, which adds much to the local economy.”

Chairman of Sedgemoor Tourism Association, Bob Nicholson, added: “We believe this is an excellent way for the Council to help the tourism sector enhance the Brean and Berrow area.”
