Heavy rain left slippery conditions at the 18th annual Brean Rally over the weekend as the event was won by Peter Lloyd in his Subaru Impreza World Rally Car for a record seventh time.
Pools of standing water on the roads at Brean Leisure Park led to several cars sliding off the track but with no injuries.
Peter Lloyd and his co-driver Carl Sorensen raced to a 42-second win over the 12 stages of the rally, having earned a 15-second lead after Saturday’s stages.
Clerk of the course Darren Loveys told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s gone really well – the showers and the heavy rain slowed the drivers down, but it went well. This is the first year that we’ve had almost 100 competitors taking part.”
“We’ve seen big crowds of spectators despite the weather, who have enjoyed a great weekend of rallying.”
Last year’s winner Steve Furzeland took second place overall in his Subaru Impreza S12 World Rally Car while Aaron Newby took third place.
