Rally fans converge on Brean this weekend

-

Big crowds of motor racing fans have converged on Brean this weekend as more than 70 rally teams take part in the village’s annual car rally.

Brean Leisure Park is hosting the popular K&R Mitsubishi Stages Rally both today (Saturday, January 30th) and Sunday January 31st.

Competitors arrived on Friday for the pre-rally car scutineering, where the cars were checked for conformity to the technical regulations.

At number 1 on the starting grid is Peter Lloyd, the winner at Brean in 2009 in his Subaru Impreza.

At number 2 is Dave Kynaston from Exeter in his Audi A3 Quatro, while husband and wife team Steve and Yvonne Furzeland from Plymouth are at the number three position with their Subaru Impreza WRC. Rally sponsor and five times winner Karl Broad, MG Metro 6R4 will be behind them.

Organised by Club Rallysport West, the rally is this year supporting the national charity Help for Heroes.

The event will again welcome spectators on both days, with covered seated grandstands and heated al-fresco snacks available in the spectator area. Indoor catering facilities will also be available.

Spectators will be admitted to the park over both days of the rally by way of a car parking charge only, which will include a souvenir rally programme. The park opens both days from 8am.

The stages this year have been designed so that spectators have full view of the stage starts and merges as well as views into other sections of the stages.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It should be a great weekend of rally action – there is sure to be plenty of excitement.”
