Last year’s Brean Rally winner Peter Lloyd leads the event on day one

-

Peter Lloyd and Carl Sorenson are on course to become the first team to win the Brean Rally for four years in a row.

The speedy duo were leading the rally at the end of Saturday’s first day of racing at Brean Leisure Park in their Subaru Impreza.

Six of the weekend’s 12 stages were completed on Saturday and the duo have opened up a 49 second margin over second-placed Karl Broad and Roger Grant in their Subaru Impreza.

Eight minutes behind in third place are Theo Bengry and Les Fosbrook in their Focus WRC.

Conditions were sunny and dry for Saturday’s action. However, several cars fell by the wayside due to mechanical failures.

Among them was Steve Furzeland and Yvonne Furzeland’s Subaru Impreza, which suffered a broken prop shaft, prompting emergency repairs.

The action resumes on Sunday at 10am with a further six stages on the final day of racing.

Brean Leisure Park is hosting the 16th annual K&R Mitsubishi Stages Rally. Gates open at 8.30am and the action will start at 10am. Entry is £5 (accompanied children under 12 will be admitted free) and car parking will be £5.

The rally is supporting two organisations, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and specialist motor sport rescue unit West Country Rescue.
