Eighty six rally teams are set to take part in this month’s 2007 Brean Stages Rally when it roars back into action on January 27th and 28th.

We were given a first look at the competitors on Monday (January 15th) when scores of drivers took part in a special preview day at Brean Leisure Park.

The day gave the drivers a chance to familiarize themselves with the track around the leisure park ahead of the chequered flag being lowered on January 27th.

The popular annual rally – now in its 11th year – continues to attract the interest of top teams, including 2006 winners Steve and Yvonne Furzeland in their Impreza World Rally Car, 2005 winners Duncan Holder and Nick Reeves in their Metro 6R4, and 2006 British National Tarmac Champions David Kynaston and Andy Russell in their Audi A3 Quatro.

Three Burnham rally teams will be taking part – Dave Boden and Sara Wills, George Mullins and Des Wood, and Steve Leigh and Ian Crafer.

“This year’s rally will see the starters tackle 12 special stages over a distance of 51 miles, six special stages on Saturday and a further six on Sunday,” organiser Rod McKenna of Weston-super-Mare Motor Club told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The opening stages on Saturday are almost four miles long and will test the drivers around a tight and technical course through the park roads.”

“The organisers have not forgotten the spectators who visit the event and have set out a special viewing zone with seated grandstands, which must be unique for a rally of this type anywhere in the country. The spectator zone will also have heated al-fresco food facilities along with trade stands.”

Event scrutineering will be held on Friday 26th January, followed by leg one on Saturday 27th with six special stages. Leg two on Sunday 28th January will contain a further six stages, providing competitive rallying. See online video of the 2006 race from onboard one of the rally cars.

The 2007 event has three new sponsors – PIAA, Permashine and Howards. Spectators are admitted to the venue by car parking only, which costs £15 per car and includes a souvenir rally programme.
