Welsh rally drivers Peter Lloyd and Graham Handley roared to overall victory at the Brean Rally on Sunday (February 1st).

The duo’s newly-acquired Subaru Impreza S12 World Rally Car, previously owned by former World Rally champion Petter Solberg, proved too quick for the rivals during the second day of action at Brean Leisure Park.

An early retirement from Karl Broad and Trasie Moore on Sunday due to a broken steering system meant second place went to last year’s winners, David Kynaston and Andy Russell, in their Audi A4 Quattro.

This was Peter’s third victory at Brean – his previous wins coming in 2001 and 1999 – and he was delighted to claim the top spot.

Peter headed the leaderboard throughout Saturday’s and Sunday’s stages and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We did have a few small problems on Sunday, but we enjoyed it lots and strong teamwork helped us win. We’ll be back next year.”

An accident on Sunday afternoon led to the cancellation of stage 12 when a Honda Civic driven by Jonathan Giles and Marie Venn rolled over, but fortunately no-one was injured.

Event organiser Rod McKenna told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year’s rally was another great success and we thank everyone who took part and came along to watch. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2010!”
