Brean Post Office closed as Royal Mail fails to find new Postmaster

-

Brean could be set to lose its main post office after Royal Mail said it has been unable to find a new postmaster to run the facilities.

The post office closed down at the end of September and Royal Mail says no-one has come forward to take it on.

Brean Parish Council said this week that it is disappointed at the news but is advising residents to use a post office counter in the village instead.

Jon Harris, parish council chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is a great shame that the original post office has closed – it’s a sign of the chellenging times for retail everywhere.”

“Fortunately though, there is another alternative in Brean and we have a post office counter at McColls. The parish council’s view is that residents should support that facility to ensure that one post office remains opens and is successful.”

“We don’t think the village can support two post offices.”

A Post Office Spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Brean Post Office since 29th September following the resignation of the postmaster.”

“We understand how important a Post Office is to the community and would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore services to them as soon as possible.”
