Brean police have opened a new information point in the centre of the village and issued an appeal for volunteers to help run it.
Local businesses have donated the static caravan, organised planning permission for it, and also redecorated and carpeted the vehicle, which is located in the grounds of The Cable & Wireless site opposite Brean Leisure Park.
The aim is for the facilities to be open as often as possible between 10am-4pm, but the pool of volunteers is stretched.
“We are managing 2-3 days a week at the moment, but would love to have it manned seven days a week by the peak season,” PC Esther Robinson told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We need more volunteers, so we would urge anyone with local knowledge of the area to come forward and help.”
She added: “We are very grateful to all the local businesses for their support and for providing this facility. It will enable residents and holidaymakers to have a direct point of contact with their local beat team, offering advice and dealing with various issues.”
Inspector Roger Tolley added: “This is a really exceptional example of what can be done when communities get together and want to make things happen for the better.”
“Nothing has been too difficult for those involved in this project and they should be justifiably proud of their achievement. What has resulted from their hard work is a dedicated post that will be of real positive benefit to the whole community, both visitors and residents, as well as being a contact point for the Police and other service agencies in Brean and the surrounding area.”
