Brean Golf Club has unveiled plans to expand its course onto nearby agricultural land.
Bosses at Brean Leisure Park have applied to Sedgemoor District Council for planning permission to redesign the existing course and expand it onto 20 acres of land to the south east of the current playing area. The proposals include introducing new water features, plus wider fairways.
The club’s professional player, David Haines, said: “The game of golf has outgrown the current layout and in order to retain existing members and attract new members and visitors, as well as acting as an attraction to tourists and visitors on holiday, expansion is necessary.”
The club has more than 400 members and was initially a nine hole facility when it was introduced in 1970, but was extended to a full 18 holes in the 1980s.
