Delighted bosses at Brean Golf Club, near Burnham-On-Sea, are celebrating after this week winning the go-ahead for a major expansion of their course.
Brean Leisure Park applied to extend the 18 hole, 5715 yard course onto agricultural land to the south of Martins Hill Farm at Red Road – and planners have this week given it the green light.
Course professional David Haines told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted – it’s excellent news for Brean and our members.”
Several holes at the course will be expanded (as shown above) and when it is completed – in the Spring of 2008 – there will also two new lakes for players to navigate around.
Mr Haines said: “The back nine holes will be changing completely with the course being extended by about 600 yards in length.”
“This will make it a lot more of a challenge and more interesting for players. We’ll have two new water features which will also make it more difficult.”
Meanwhile, a separate planning application from the club to build a new clubhouse and car parking area was deferred to allow planners to visit the site and assess whether the building would have any impact on the surrounding landscape.
