Brean Golf Club charity day raises over £5,000 for two good causes

-

A Charity Golf Day held at Brean Golf Club has led to over £5,500 being presented to two good causes.

The 28th annual Sports Celebrity Am took place at Brean Golf Club earlier this year with 23 teams taking part. Once again, the event was raising funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund and St Margaret’s Hospice.

Notable racing names took part, including John Francome and Carl Llewellyn, along with Phil Morris, the FIM Speedway Grand Prix Race Director who is a regular supporter of the event, and semi-retired English professional darts player and former World Champion Bob Anderson.  They were joined by members of Brean Golf Club, PGA professionals, Team Brean and players from the local community.

As a result of the event, £3,900 has been donated to the Injured Jockey’s Fund, a charity that provides support to jockeys past or present who are injured, unable to ride, or generally in need of support, be it as a result of financial, health or personal issues.

The company and the House family, owners of Brean Leisure Park, have been involved within the racing industry and point to point for many years and subsequently have been long term supporters of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

An additional £1,700 has been donated to Somerset-based St Margaret’s Hospice, who provide palliative care to patients and their families who are affected by life limiting illness. One in three people in Somerset are likely to need their support.

Emma Britton from BBC Radio Bristol and Patron of St Margaret’s Hospice was on hand to thank the players for raising the money and to hand out the awards after another excellent meal following the round laid on in the Tavern.

The event will run again in 2019 and the teams will be welcomed at the new multi million pound Brean Country Club, the new home of Brean Golf Club.
