The annual Brean Golf Club presentation night took place in the newly-refurbished Tavern at Brean Leisure Park on Friday (February 24th) where a cheque for over £4,000 was presented to the Captain’s charity of the year, Prostate Cancer UK.
Almost 80 club members and guests attended the event, enjoying an excellent carvery before settling back to learn who had won what over the last 12 months.
Around 25 trophies were presented including The Golfer of the Year award which went to Roger Vaughan after his successful year on the course.
The final two awards were made to the respective club champions as Suzanne Hatfield collected the Ladies Championship for a third time and Steve Bateman took possession of the Men’s Club Championship Trophy for a seventh time.
Club Captain Andy Thomas also took to the microphone to share some of the memories of his year in office and thank some special people who helped him greatly along the way.
He also had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £4,118.27 raised by the members to Trevor Rogers from Prostate Cancer UK.
Trevor thanked the members for their efforts and stated that it was the biggest single cheque he had received for the Charity in his time in the role he carries out for them. He added that the money would be put to excellent use to provide support for patients when they receive a diagnosis and subsequent treatment for the disease.
He also recalled the previous time he had spoken to the club membership back in May after the Captain’s Charity Day.
He was pleased to hear that his advice on that day had been taken about taking a trip to your GP to get checked out and that two members are currently undergoing treatment following early diagnosis of having Prostate Cancer.
