The Captain of Brean Golf Club climbed the height of Mount Everest during an incredible charity fundraising challenge on Monday.
Trevor Pitt took to a step climbing machine at Brean Splash’s gym where he completed a huge 29,028 steps over the course of seven hours and 52 minutes.
He raised in the region of £1,800 for his chosen charity of the year, The British Skin Foundation, towards its research into skin cancer.
Trevor, a retired Police Officer, had been training for the challenge for some time and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “My wife, Lyn, was diagnosed with skin cancer on her leg which was a shock. Fortunately, it was caught early and she’s fine now but it was reassuring to know The British Skin Foundation is there. The best advice is to cover up in the sunshine and protect your skin.”
He added: “A few of the golf club members have been diagnosed and treated for skin cancer in recent years and, after the baking hot summer of 2018, the decision was taken to raise money for the only UK charity which funds research into all types of skin disease, including skin cancer.”
The golf club’s members have been pledging their support to their Captain and a Justgiving page is set up for the donations at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/trevor-pitt-trek
Following on from Trevor’s challenge a few other events are being planned to boost the funds over the next 12 months.
