The National Trust’s wardens on Brean Down have been renamed ‘rangers’ and are getting brand new roles as part of a number of changes.
The trust’s staff have also had their traditional dark green uniforms replaced with these orange outfits instead.
Alongside their conservation and countryside maintenance skills, the new rangers will be spending more time meeting and talking with visitors.
Andy Mayled, the trust’s General Manager for Somerset, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “To change the way everybody sees the trust as an organisation, we wanted to offer something different to see. A physical change is a clear statement that we’re serious and that we want to be as well known for our work in the countryside as we are for our historic houses.”
“Our rangers at Brean and elsewhere will now be working at weekends when most of our visitors are around and we’re there to help give people an enjoyable time. We will be organising new and exciting events and activities and want people to tell us what they would like to do. The Trust owns this land on behalf of everyone and we want to allow more people access to it.”
