A 4×4 vehicle which became stuck on the mudflats at Brean beach on Sunday evening (May 10th) has been completely lost to the incoming tide.
The Nissan Patrol 4×4 vehicle, pictured, got into difficulty in soft sand after being driven approximately half a mile out from the beach near to Brean Down.
Its owners, who are on holiday from South Wales, managed to escape from the vehicle and BARB, the Burnham-based rescue charity, was called to the scene.
However, the call came in too late for its crewmembers to save the vehicle from the rapidly-incoming tide and it quickly became submerged at around 6pm.
“Our tractor was called to the scene but unfortunately there was not enough time for our crew to safely carry out the rescue,” a BARB spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Several vehicles have been lost on the beach at Brean in recent years and this latest incident is a stark reminder of the need for beach users to stay well clear of soft sand and mud.”
The warning comes after a series of incident during recent weeks. A stranded van was successfully pulled out of the mud by BARB at Berrow on Saturday evening (May 9th).
Last month, a boat and trailer were towed to safety by BARB on Brean beach. In March, a car was lost at Brean, and in February, a quad bike was pulled out of the mud on Burnham-on-Sea beach.
