A 22 year-old singer from West Huntspill, near Burnham-On-Sea, is this week celebrating after winning £25,000 on Sky 1’s talent show Don’t Stop Me Now.
Breeze Kilpin scooped the huge cash prize on Sunday night’s episode by winning the audience’s votes on the hit entertainment show.
The Sky 1 show gives performers just 100 seconds to impress the studio audience, who are armed with voting pads.
“I was absolutely gobsmacked to have won,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week. “I don’t win anything – I’m just a normal girl with a dream to sing professionally.”
She added that taking part in the competition was incredibly nerve-racking as she waited to hear whether she would win or be plunged downwards through a trap door and voted out of the show.
“When I was stood on the stage next to the other two finalists my heart was pounding and my tummy was twisting.”
“I was standing there on the trap door getting my feet in place ready to go down. When I heard the claxon it took me a few seconds to realise I had won and then burst into tears!”
“The show’s presenters, Amanda Byram and Sally Lindsay, were fantastic. It was an amazing experience – I’d love to do it all again.”
Breeze lives in West Huntspill and currently works as a care assistant, a job she enjoys, but her dream is to become a professional singer.
She is giving some of her winnings to her mother, who taught to her sing.
“I have always wanted to sing ever since I was a little girl. I used to drive my mum, friends and family mad with my singing all the time. I was not very good at all, I was out of tune, and had no sense of timing or rhythm.”
“This was because I was quite deaf but once I had that problem sorted out, I seemed to get better and better. My mum then realised that I was quite serious about singing and helped me as best as she could. She gave me the benefit from her years as a singer and taught me all that she knew.”
“From there on in she has been my biggest fan and does everything that she can to help me and to help get my voice heard.”
