An historic building in the centre of Highbridge is set to be converted into offices after being sold for over £200,000 this week.
Bradbury House in Market Street was formerly home to Lloyds Bank and more recently has been the HQ for the National Blind Children’s Society until it moved out in August.
The prominent property was set to be sold at auction on Tuesday and had a guide price of £75,000 to £100,000, however the auctioneers Clive Emson recieved a large bid last week.
“We had a bid in excess of £200,000 last Friday which was accepted by the vendor and the property did not need to go to auction,” a spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The owner is keen to turn the building into offices.”
Mike Murphy of Highbridge Chamber of Trade welcomed the news, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The extra offices could well bring extra jobs into the town centre which would be fantastic news for the town.”
“I am very pleased it has been sold and will be used for business space.”
Auctioneer Graham Barton said there had been lots of interest in the property. “It was priced to attract attention. It is in a prominent position in the centre of Highbridge and is a feature property,” he said.
Spread over three floors, the property is described as a ‘substantial office building with development potential’. The identity of the new owner has not yet been revealed.
