Dozens of fundraisers braved the icy waters of the Bristol Channel to take part in a bracing sea dip at Brean on Boxing Day to raise hundreds of pounds for a Burnham-On-Sea charity.
Over 30 supporters of rescue hovercraft charity BARB ran into the Bristol Channel during the sponsored event, which was held to raise funds towards the £60,000 cost of buying the charity a new rescue hovercraft.
Some of the participants splashed at the edge of the sea while others waded into the water for a brief swim.
A crowd of 30 onlookers watched the spectacle from the beach, while Coastguards and a boat crew ensured everyone was safe.
“This was a unique opportunity to work off the excesses of Christmas Day while raising money for a good cause,” a BARB spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Many thanks go to everyone who took part and thanks also to Mark Roberts, the manager of Krackers Bar in South Road, Brean, who kindly organised the event for us.”
BARB is currently raising money towards the replacement of one of its life-saving rescue hovercrafts and several hundred pounds is expected to have raised for the campaign by the Boxing Day Dip.
