A Burnham-On-Sea community events group is appealing for volunteers to join its ranks and is holding a meeting this week for people to get involved.
BOSH Events is to hold a volunteers meeting on Tuesday 18th April at the BIARS Tourist Information Centre on Burnham seafront at 6pm.
“We need helping hands to help organise ten days of events planned for the 2017 season. We hope to see those who have done such a wonderful job for us before by helping, but we also need to add to the team to manage what’s planned without feeling exhausted by the end of the year,” said organiser Gaynor Brown.
“Volunteering means attending occasional meetings, mostly during the day, and then being a reliable hand on the day.”
“Your day would involve a variety of activities including people handling, performing as a Medieval or Viking character, collecting, organising parking, helping stall holders, first aid and marshalling (for which we have a course in October which can certificate your skills).”
“Our volunteers report that you get a lot out of volunteering and meeting people, both residents and tourists. Without your help we couldn’t produce our events. They are all free to enter and funding is so restricted that without the fact that we make our own costumes, props and equipment, some of the well-known events in the town would be lost.”
“Last year over 300 people flew a kite for the first time ever, the sports relief mile raised hundreds of pounds for Cancer research, we enjoyed a concert on the seafront with local bands and groups, and we played at being knights, their retainers and the royal court, plus joined youth groups together for a parade across the beach, and organised a pirate invasion at the end of the season!”
If you can’t make Tuesday’s meeting but would like to volunteer please contact Gaynor on 01278 238714.
