A lack of staff due to illness caused a Burnham-On-Sea town centre cafe to receive a low food hygiene score.
BOS Cafe in Burnham-On-Sea High Street has spoken out after it received a surprise ‘two-star’ rating in Sedgemoor District Council’s latest food hygiene inspection, run in conjunction with the government’s Food Standards Agency.
“We’ve always had five-star hygiene scores for many years because we take our food hygiene very seriously,” a spokesman for BOS Cafe told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Unfortunately, on the day the reviewers recently visited us, we were struggling with a lack of staff due to illness, so tables on that one day were not cleared as quickly as usual and this led to our low score. Our food standard remained high.”
He added: “The issue was quickly resolved and we are now back to normal, but we apologise to any customers who experienced problems. We are due to be re-reviewed within three months.”
The inspection was carried out on 15th November 2017 and the two stars are defined as “improvement necessary”.
